About

I spent most of my professional life as a Community Nurse for people with learning disabilities and a Family Planning Nurse in London, and a Forensic Nurse working with young offenders in Hertfordshire. I spent six years living in the south of France.

I am an alumnus of The Novelry and the CBC Edit and Pitch Your Novel course and a member of Jericho Writers.

When not writing, I feel responsible for feeding every bird and hedgehog that visits and lives in the garden.

I live on the Norfolk border with my husband and our demanding rescue cat. Our daughters have flown the nest.

    • Hello Mrs Smith, I remember you so well and have such fond memories of you teaching my daughters! I remember you giving Rosie extra maths to do as she finished her work quickly and would chat or help other students! Jessica is a vet, currently specialising in putting animals to sleep as she shows a deep compassion for both the animal and their owners. This takes place in the animal’s home, or in a specially designed building which mimics a home, so the animal is relaxed and unafraid. Rosie has a First in computer science and is a senior engineer for an international company who troubleshoot for companies such as X Box. They are both living with lovely partners in Kent. We are living on the Norfolk border, but still manage to see the girls often. I will tell them you remember them and asked how they are doing.
I hope you are enjoying your retirement, and it is really lovely to hear from you.
      Best wishes,
      Hemmie

      • Thank you very much. You have all been in my thoughts for several weeks.. may be months. I have very fond memories of both classes 2001 and 2003. I see Patricia Blanco most weeks, learning Spanish and as a friend, Lara is a solicitor.. I also have contact with Abigail(Abi)May’s mother in New Zealand. Abi teaches PE. The class of 2001 were an amazing group of children, also 2003. There are others too that I hear about, via William Green’s mother who has contact with another HM contact. Also have contact with Emma Mears, as she now lives in Henham.
Jessica and Rosie have both done extremely well for themselves. Well done to you as a parent. Please remember me to them both and send them my love..
Enjoy the Festive Season, where ever you may be. May God Bless You All.
Love Barbara (Smith). J and I have 8 grand children who keep us busy .. Age range

      • Thank you, Barbara, for letting me know how some of the other classmates are doing – there were clearly talented children in those years. I messaged my daughters to tell them you had been in contact, and they were touched that you remembered them. They also have fond memories of you and of HM and they send their love to you. Ah, I think your eight grandchildren will keep you very busy people!
I hope you have a peaceful and merry Christmas, and that the New Year brings you much joy and good health.
        Love, Hemmie
